A priest and a Levite, both considered honorable to the Jewish audience, pass the man by. Then a Samaritan, a person belonging to a culture that the Jewish people of the time would have despised, takes pity on the man. Our neighbor is anyone that we can help. Perhaps a neighbor, whoever that might be, would reach out for help today. What would be your and my response? The best thing we can do for our neighbor is to love them, and the love of God should compel us to share Christ with them.
We need to let them know that God demands perfect righteousness to enter the kingdom, but God provides what He demands through Jesus Christ.

Then, in a striking parable about a Jew and a Samaritan, He illustrated that loving others is accomplished by actively, humbly, and sacrificially showing mercy.
On the one hand, we see the Jewish priest and the Levite who walked right by a man who had been beaten and robbed, indifferent to his plight. On the other hand, we see the Samaritan, moved with compassion, who went out of his way to meet the needs of the man lying on the side of the road.
Jesus confronts us with the heart of His story as He brings the lawyer to the logical conclusion:. According to Jesus, we know we have loved our neighbor well when we are moved with compassion to meet their needs, even when it is costly or inconvenient.
But who is our neighbor? Scripture teaches us to love our neighbors, our enemies Matthew , our friends John ; Proverbs , and our brothers and sisters in Christ Hebrews ; 1 John , It is assumed we will love our own families deeply, and that our love for God should surpass even that love Matthew God commands us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
In other words, we are to love Him with everything we are — body physical , soul mind, will, emotions , and spirit our inner man that connects with the Spirit of God.
This gives us a good foundation for how we love other people, recognizing them as individuals in need of the overflowing, abundance of our love for God. This was an unplanned encounter. They were of two different ethnic groups; in fact, they were social enemies.
Yet, because the Samaritan had a compassionate heart, he saw the man as his neighbor. We will live in an awareness that He is orchestrating our steps for the purpose of being His ambassadors in a world that needs to see and experience the mercy of God 2 Corinthians For example, God is in heaven , yet in His Spirit, He is close to us.
