What is the difference between spotify and slacker

The Good Slacker Radio offers powerful Pandora-like radio and more than curated stations. The new My Vibe feature adds Songza-like capabilities. Paid users get on-demand listening as well. The Bad Slacker's video, audio, and banner ads are intrusive. Users can access the service on the web, through mobile apps on smartphones and on OTT devices. Slacker Radio Plus : Offers unlimited song skips, lyrics, and the ability to listen offline. Slacker Premium Radio : Features everything you get with Slacker Radio Plus , and also includes on-demand access to the Slacker music library, allowing you to listen to songs, albums, and playlists on demand.

Is Pandora free with Amazon Prime? Prime Music, Amazon's free music streaming service for Prime members, has been upgraded on mobile today with a new feature that will see the service better competing with similar offerings like Pandora or iTunes Radio, for example. Is it worth paying for Pandora? It might not provide the perfect fit, but, depending on your preferences, it could still be worth your time and consideration.

Pandora Premium is being rolled out gradually. Existing Pandora Plus users will be offered six months of Pandora Premium for free. Non-Pandora Plus users will receive a two-month free trial.

There are other things Slacker could bring into the fold. So, rather than trying to imitate the competition I recommend acquiring one of the standouts in the streming music space.

If that were to happen, Spotify's offerings—music selection, UI, station content and usability would clearly stand well above all competitors. Since this is more of a management decision and not a real "feature request" I'll mark it as Unspecified for now but of course leave it open for discussion and gaining kudos.

Actually I think it is a "feature request," in a sense. I've used Slacker's pay version, and their radio concept is outstanding.

I love the selection of genres and subgenres - maybe I'm not finding them, but Spotify's radio stations seem really lacking in variety. I also love being able to toggle the DJ announcements on or off, depending on my mood. And the songs are all clearly picked by a human, not an algorithm. I know Spotify has more playlists than anyone could ever use, but it's great to be constantly surprised by a DJ who knows what he or she is doing - I think that's why satellite radio is still fairly popular. My big complaint with Slacker is the sound quality.

I've just switched to Rdio for now, which seems better on that front. But I'd come back to Spotify Premium if the radio options improve. My issue with the interface is it takes too many taps or swipes to get where you want. Coming from Rdio this is very frustrating. I realize there's a trade off in one area in particular; on Rdio when you add anything by an artist to your library, you will automatically get notifications if the artist has anything new added to Rdio.

I can see how Spotify users may like the option to follow an artist in the case they only like a couple songs by them and don't care about much else. For me, however, it's an extra step. When I get to an artist page, the landing page seems like a bit of a mess. On the desktop it's nice to see what the newest material is at the top, but then you scroll down and it's a mess. I would really like the option to see the album art with a release date underneath, a hover giving me an option to save, and if I want to see the track listing click in further.

To have all that listed there and have to scroll a bunch to get to the album I want if they have a lot is frustrating, especially on mobile! It also makes it a bit tough with extensive catalogs if you're scrolling fast, you almost have to go slow to make sure you're not scrolling past the album you want if you're not entirely familiar with all the song names.

In terms of new features, the new apps and website don't actually add all that much over and above what Slacker had before.

The core feature is still the free, Pandora-like radio service with the usual like buttons and ads. The redesign makes it easy to tweak playlist settings for example, by requesting new music happen more frequently and generally feels slightly easier to navigate than the old Slacker — but unfortunately for the company that's not high praise.

Although it was relatively fast in our testing, understanding how to build playlists and otherwise navigate the site often felt confusing. We also gave the Android app a brief spin and found the look and feel quite dated — but the appearance of the iOS and Windows Phone apps looks to be a bit better. Slacker's new look isn't really a killer feature, but the fact that it does a passably good job at the different kinds of music streaming services is offers could be.

Services like Spotify and Rdio fall down a bit when they try to do radio and Pandora doesn't try to do anything but radio. Slacker isn't nearly as good as its competitors when they are at their best, but it's better than its competitors when they are out of their comfort zones.

Unfortunately, using minimax decision theory in product design doesn't yield inspiring results — but in Slacker's case, it has resulted in a product that should be palatable enough to convince some users they don't need to pay for multiple alternatives.

It may not add up to the "blockbuster year" Slacker is promising, but it should keep Slacker's self-described "quietly built, [ Subscribe to get the best Verge-approved tech deals of the week. You can also play Spotify on your mobile device if you paying for the Premium version. You can take advantage of Slacker Radio on your portable device even if you are using the free version. You can not add your own library to Slacker Radio.

Also Spotify does have a desktop application, Slacker Radio is web base and is available in the US only. Spotify is available in mutiple countries.

I like the way Slacker Radio looks and is set up better then Spotify. It is just easier to see where things are with Slacker Radio. For example on Slacker radio if I want to buy a song or album the button is right there and easy to see, on Spotify it is hard to see.

The bottom line is if you have lots of friends who use Spotify along with Facebook and like to share music with them. Plus you want to have access to your personal library then Spotify is for you. However if you are more into exploration I would go with Slacker Radio. Right now I am leaning toward Slacker Radio.
